[11:04] Doc Spad: First order of business is the topic of out-world vs in world Charitable giving.
[11:05] Doc Spad: The Board has discussed some of the problems and pitfalls of our group raising money for real-world charitable organizations. Not least among these is verification of the monies being actually donated. In the past, the only way to verify that these donated monies have actually been donated requires that someone to reveal their true identity and provide the membership with a copy of an actual Physical receipt. In addition, those monies need to be transferred to one of our members SL account, which would result as a taxable event, resulting in Linden Labs sending to the IRS and the individual a 1099 Misc income declaration. In short these monies will be interpreted as taxable income to the individual.
[11:06] Doc Spad: The purpose of us raising money is to have enough money to conduct a festival each year. The renting of sims from Linden Labs is the greatest expenditure toward this purpose. We have fundraising events throughout the year and we offer sponsorship packages to vendors that rent shops and venues at the festival, all directed towards this purpose. Every year, we have raised excess funds. In the past we have partnered with a Real World charity as the recipient of these funds. Another issue is that, in the past, we have donated ALL of these funds at the end of the year, leaving the new Board with no funds to conduct day to day business.
[11:07] Doc Spad: One idea is that we limit our donations to groups and activities within Second Life. There are many organizations worthy of our support in-world that would appreciate our help. And this would also help us develop better relations and lasting relationship[s with meaningful LGBT organizations within our virtual world.
[11:08] Doc Spad: Keep in mind that the excess funds raised from the last festival, currently in our treasury, are in excess of L$380,000.
[11:08] Doc Spad: We are not going to make any decisions of this today. I’d like to see a lively exchange of ideas within the forums as to what the membership feels on this issue and how we might proceed.
[11:09] Doc Spad: I would like to start the discussion of what is the best path for us to take on the raising of funds, the disposition of those funds, and exploring on how we might find in-world activities worthy of our support. I would encourage your ideas and comments and encourage a civil and respectful discussion in the forums.

[11:15] Doc Spad: The Pride movement traces its origins to the Stonewall Riot in NYC on June 27th, 1969. As a commemoration of that event Parades were held in NYC, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco the next year on June 28th. The Board feels that our celebration should span those same dates.

[11:34] Doc Spad: We will have a scheduled general membership meeting once a month for the next several months and increase the frequency as the festival approaches or as the need arises. We will have Board/Work meetings as well, more frequently and, of course, the membership is invited to those as well. All of these meetings will be announced in advance and posted in the calendar along with their Agendas. Notices will also be sent out notifying the membership of the dates and locations of these meetings.
[11:35] Doc Spad: The Board will also be having Informal meetings, amongst ourselves, from time to time. These meetings are in voice chat, there are no minutes , and are more for us to get our ducks in a row before we come to you, the membership. The objective is to save the membership from having to sit there and listen to us talk about things we should have already discussed. At no time, during these meetings, will actions or votes be made. Votes will always be taken in front of the membership and always with prior input from the membership.
